The missing “h” April 21, 2008

The latest Lexus TV ad says that all of the “h”’s are missing. There’s a sign on a freeway saying “Welcome to Uta_”. The infamous sign on the side of a hill in Los Angeles says “_ollywood”. The announcer in the TV ad explains that the letter “h” didn’t leave because it felt unappreciated, but rather it had just found a better place to live….on the back of the new Lexus hybrid.
I went to see the Rhythm Anchors perform at the Sage Wine Bar on April 12th. That’s when I found another missing “h”. The Rythm Anchors. Why did Lexus only take one “h”, why not all the “h”s. Maybe Lexus had manufactured all the Hybrids they needed this year. The most important question was whether or not the missing “h” would affect the Anchors rhythm. Well I’m happy to report that the Rhythm Anchors did very well. There was a lively crowd cheering and whistling at the end of songs – and not just because they were trying to get their waitress’s attention. They performed many jazz standards, Latin blues and a Beatles tune. Bob promised me a Beatles tune if I came to see the Anchors instead of Phil Keaggy that night. I think I spent more money
at the Sage listening to the Anchors then the cost of a Phil Keaggy ticket. I think I’m going to have to re-evaluate the Top Ten reasons to see the Anchors instead of Phil Keaggy that was posted previously. That being said It was a wonderful night of music deserving a standing ovation – no wait, that would have been the Keaggy concert. It was a wonderful night of music.
Review of the movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed April 20, 2008

Last Friday night , my wife and I went to see Ben Stein’s Movie “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed”. I wanted to go see the movie for several reasons. First, I have always enjoyed Ben Stein’s wit and humor. His game show Ben Stein’s Money was hilarious. I also enjoy reading his personal finance columns that are published in Yahoo! Finance. The second reason is that my local paper raked the movie over the coals. They gave it 1/2 out of 4 stars and I usually love the movies they hate.
Being a guy that knows nothing – especially how to write a movie review – I searched Google for a review that best describes what I thought of the movie. I found one written by a columnist for Yahoo News. His name is Brent Bozell III. He is also the founder and president of the Media Research Center which is the largest media watchdog organization in America. His Bio states that “Mr. Bozell is a nationally syndicated writer whose work appears in publications such as Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The New York Post, The L.A. Times and National Review.” So I figured he knows more than me.
Here is what Mr Bozell has to say:

I confess that when the producers of Ben Stein’s new documentary “Expelled” called, offering me a private screening, I was less than excited.

The following end-of-the-meeting recap is thought to have taken place at one of the business units within the company I work for. No names have been used to protect my employment status.
We’ve been hanging around this room and shooting so many thoughts back and forth that we’re drowning in ideas on this new recognition award. We’ve literally beaten the idea to death and still don’t have anything to show for it. I feel buried by the crushing weight of this responsibility. Shoot, maybe we ought to call it quits for tonight and take another stab at it tomorrow. No, wait a minute, I’ve got it! Let’s recognize the determination, outstanding innovation and dedication to the person who has had the greatest impact on the most recent quarterly results with the “Executioner Award“.

Only guys who truly know nothing would be so silly to do something musically on the same night that Phil Keaggy is playing at Bethel University. But hey, what do we know? Well, for all of those who couldn’t get a
ticket to see Phil, Jeff Wachter (mandolin) and Bob Martin (guitar) invite you to The Sage Market in Mendota Heights. We don’t do no stink’n blazing fast solos, awesome and complex chord progressions or loops with all the electronic gizmos that Phil uses. On the contrary, we’ll play various contemporary and jazz standards, attempt some Carlos Jobim songs, probably run acoustic blues aground, and if the mood seems just right, i.e. no one paying attention, maybe there’ll even be an Irish jig.
When: Saturday, April 12th
Time: 7-10pm
Location: The Sage Market
730 Main Street (Hwy 110 & Dodd Road)
Mendota Heights
Please call 651.452.7000 or check out the Sage Market’s web site for more information: http://thesagemarket.us/index2.html
