A couple of days ago I received a post card indicating that American Pro Audio is going out of business. Even though the store caters more to a live-sound, church, and studio recording clientele, Lee Windsperger, Dick McCalley, and Kent Stevenson have always been gracious to me when I would wander around the store looking for a used or consigned something that a “living room” player like myself could be interested in. I always preferred to give what little business I could to them instead of Guitar Center or the now long gone Marrs Music. APA has been in business for twenty years and I’m sad to see them go. Good luck and best wishes, guys.
Remembering Larry Norman February 28, 2008

I remember as a senior in high school a friend of mine, Mike Webster, invited me over to his house one afternoon to hear a record he had just bought. He insisted that I needed to hear it. So after school I went over to Mike’s place and listened to the album “Only Visiting This Planet” by Larry Norman while Mike sat in his chair playing his 6-string classical guitar, singing along with the record. He was right, I did need to hear that record. I had been playing guitar for a couple of years and couldn’t quit figure out how music was going to fit in with my new found faith in God. Larry Norman’s music had a message and a beat (and I could move my feet). He would sing about topics that most people wouldn’t touch in the 70’s. He was a true visionary and inspired quit a few artists over the past 30 years.
Larry Norman passed away last Sunday, February 24th at the age of 60. He was an inspiration to me and will be missed.
“I want the people to know that He saved my soul but I still like to listen to the radio/ They say rock and roll is wrong give you one more chance/ I say I feel so good I gotta get up and dance/ There’s nothing wrong with playing blues licks/ If you gotta reason tell me to my face/ Why should the Devil have all the good music” — Larry Norman, “Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music,” Only Visiting This Planet, 1972

Bob and Jeph played at the Sage Wine bar in Mendota Height, Minnesota last night. It was open Mic night and the placed was packed. It was a noisy venue but the guys did well.

Jeph and Bob playing some jazz…
Jeph playing really, really fast! (his Chris Thile impersonation).
Jeph and Bob played 4 songs: All of Me (my personal favorite), All the Things You Are, Wave, and Poka Dots and Moonbeams.

A reminder that an open mic is being hosted at The Sage Market in Mendota Heights at 8:00pm tonight. Hopefully Jeff & I won’t embarrass ourselves too much as we muddle through two or three instrumental jazz standards on guitar & mandolin. Check the link for directions.
Blogging or Just Glorified Email? February 25, 2008

Okay, my pot is lit. And just so no one gets the wrong idea, we’re not talking about THAT kind of pot. “Light the pots” comes from the old oil burner technology used to ward off a killing frost from the orange groves. It’s our metaphor for shedding light on a subject. But since we know nothing, sometimes we only raise a question. Questions are good!
Here’s mine: Will this thing just be a fancy email system for our own little gang of 4, or will we be blogging to the general reading public?!
